Metal straws take a lot of energy to produce. The carbon footprint of steel straws is significantly greater than bamboo straws. Unlike bamboo straws, steel straws are not biodegradable. Eventually adding to the wast problem. There are many types of stainless steel straws; some containing toxic metals combined within the stainless steel. When heated up these toxins can leach into your drink. Paper straws are not necessarily environmentally friendly. Paper straws made from fresh rawmaterials that contribute to deforestation and habitat damage.Paper straws have a higher carbon footprint due to the manufacturing process. The majority of paper straw brands use harmful chemicals in the manufacturing process as a way of overcoming common complaints such as paper straws getting soggy too quickly or the colour of paper straws leaching into drinks.
